bringin' back the 80's

{read with a valley girl accent!}
So, I will confess that I pretty much detest the 80's trend that has hit full force with some people. It kind of like - makes me cringe. But like, I won't hate too much, because if I could - I'd totally bring back 80's music.

{back to normal}
Today, I went to pick up my lunch and I was standing patiently for the guy to finish up my COMIDA and can you guess what I heard? I mean, SERIOUSLY, it was an automatic smile and lip sinkin' with a little bit of shakin' the hip action with a pretend microphone to my face. (I'm not ashamed! and I was by myself so no one was going to stop me!)

Here it goes: WILSON PHILLIPS!
♪Some day somebody's gonna make you want to
Turn around and say goodbye
Until then baby are you going to let them
Hold you down and make you cry
Don't you know?
Don't you know things can change
Things'll go your way
If you hold on for one more day
Can you hold on for one more day
Things'll go your way
Hold on for one more day♫
Girls - they just wanna have fun!

Everything Such As

It is just about 8 pm and I'm getting ready for bed. My dear bed - how I have missed thee!

I try not to post about work, but my life has been "consumed" by it this week so I'll post. I'll provide some context to the following list by saying: I stayed about an hour from my house in a hotel. You might think it's silly, but I find it helpful. I've slept pretty hard, but still wake up somewhat tired in the mornings. Sitting/standing still isn't good!!

Things that were good this week:
  1. I got to see my friend! We were roommates this week.
  2. Work was pleasantly peaceful! Really, I'm EXTREMELY grateful!
  3. The party we planned for was great! (Heroes & Heroines - a fun theme!)
  4. I laughed hard! Really hard. Many times. Our boss has classic one liners and we got to play catch phrase. I saw some curious river dancing.
  5. I realized how good a life I have - outside of work, I mean. Not that I didn't know before, but sometimes it hits you. And you sigh...and thank God for his goodness. I have a family that loves me dearly. I was very happy to see them today. Hugs from people who love you are the best!
edit: work is fine. it was just a relief to come home. There's NO place, not ONE place, like home!

A Wednesday Word: making wednesday worthwhile

chry·san·the·mum [kri-san-thuh-muhm] –noun
1. any of several composite plants of the genus Chrysanthemum, as C. leucanthemum, the oxeye daisy, having white ray flowers with a yellow center.
2. any cultivated variety of the plant C. morifolium, native to China, and of other species of Chrysanthemum, notable for the diversity of color and size of their autumnal flowers.
3. the flower of any such plant.

Okay, so it's an autumnal flower! Perhaps it would have been better to post this around October or November. HOWEVER, Chrysanthemum also happens to be on of my favorite children's books. When you read it you have to do the voices and when you read Chrysanthemum you HAVE to read it like this: Chrys-AAAAN-themum!

A quick story.

Today is Monday, January 14 and the neighbors down the street have their Christmas lights still up. I wouldn't really think anything of it, except that it's really CREEPY! They have a window display of a life size moving Santa, surrounded by small elves, under a RED spot light!
Seriously. It's creepy! I call it the Christmas House of Horrors!

Notes on being a Mimi

This is more of a warning than anything. If you so choose to name your child Mimi or a name with the corresponding nickname Mimi, beware of what your child will endure any time she meets new people (specifically in a group setting):

  • This is funny, because the person saying it is trying to not be offensive!
"Oh that name reminds me of this really funny lady on this really funny show!"
"The Drew Carey Show? Mimi?"
"Yeah how did you know?"
"Uhm, I've seen the show. And I dressed like her once for Halloween!"
  • "Your name is MIMI???? OMG, That's what I call my Gramma!"
  • ♫♪Mi-mi-mi-MIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!♫♪
  • "OMG! have you ever seen the movie/show RENT? OMG, it's the best! The main character is Mimi!! Your name CANNOT be MIMI MARQUEZ!!! (insert the mimi song for the next 20 minutes)

It's fun to play along! However, when the singing doesn't stop - God SPARE US! Wow.

Paola & Mike

It is so beyond comprehension how something that is so routine could change your life forever. Paola took Mike to the oral surgeon for a routine procedure and rode with him to the emergency room in the ambulance where he was pronounced dead. He was only 20 years old.

I'm sad. Sad for Mike. Sad for Paola. Sad for his parents. Sad for his friends. Sad for Paola's family who was excited about him becoming family!

You can't tell someone that it's going to be ok, because it's soooo NOT! It's not fair at all.

20 Minutes

If you have twenty minutes watch this. If not, then come back when you do and watch. If only everyone would take this to heart we'd have less medicated children and a world full of inspiration.

A Wednesday Word: making wednesdays worthwhile

ebullient \ih-BUL-yuhnt\, adjective:

1. Overflowing with enthusiasm or excitement; high-spirited.
2. Boiling up or over.

I always feel overly ebullient when we ring in the new year. There is something about it that gives me hope enough to make me fly for days. It's not just another day, it's a NEW YEAR! We have the choice to make it brake it! :o)

Personally, I think it will be fruitful. After all I just picked oranges last night!!! So symbolic!

p.s. New Year Resolutions anyone?

New Year Bells

By Leland B. Jacobs

A bell that was big
And gruff and bold
Bade good-bye
To the year grown old.

A bell that was small
And tinkled clear
Called greetings
To the youngest year,

Then all the bells
Joined the merry din
And the bright new year
Was welcomed in.
